Summary:

Cypress Creek Renewables (CCR) seeks a full-time Southeast Policy Lead to join its government and regulatory affairs team. The ideal candidate will have good familiarity with issues affecting the solar industry nationally and regionally and broad experience in renewable energy market development and policy development/analysis; building consensus with diverse stakeholders around public policy initiatives; communicating effectively with regulators, legislators, utilities, and other key opinion leaders; and driving solutions to issues.

Location : Negotiable within the Southeast or working out one of Cypress Creek’s office locations in North Carolina or California.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Representing CCR in regulatory, legislative, and local stakeholder settings and conversations across the Southeast
  • Tracking key energy policy activities in the Southeast
  • Interfacing with membership organizations, regulators, state legislators, and utilities
  • Working independently and as part of a team to develop policy positions, implement policy strategy, and identify commercial opportunities in the region
  • Identifying and developing solutions to legislative, regulatory, and local issues that have the potential to affect community and utility scale and community solar
  • Networking with public officials, utilities, and key partners in the region to influence policy
  • Managing consultants and other third-party contractors

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience communicating with regulators, legislators, utilities, and other stakeholders
  • Knowledge of the renewable energy industry, electricity markets and trends in the region

Preferred Qualifications & Work Experience:

  • Graduate degree in public policy, economics, environmental studies or related field
  • 3 years of experience in renewable energy consulting, state policy advocacy, or related fields
  • Experience working in state or federal legislative or executive branch positions
  • A network of clean energy, governmental, and/or utility contacts in the Southeast
  • Deep knowledge of the renewable energy industry, electricity markets, and trends in the region
  • Experience with key topics affecting the solar industry such as project revenue options (including net-metering, value of DER proceedings, state RPSs, and utility procurements), interconnection processes and technical best practices, project siting and land use issues, and property and sales tax
