Our Favorite Find:  Winners of 2011 Solar Decathlon

Sponsored by the Department of Energy, the Solar Decathlon challenges collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive. The University of Maryland Energy Research Center had a team which included over 200 professors, students, and advisors who worked for two years to complete their house. One of the most interesting aspects of the house is the use of a lithium chloride waterfall to dehumidify the house, pictured below right. In the end, they ended up winning the entire competition, narrowly edging out teams for New Zealand and Purdue University.  Full Story
