Graduate Programs  Cool Research  Resources for BSRI

Master of Biomanufacturing and Bioprocessing

  • 2 year program
  • Students trained for leadership roles in biomanufactring field
  • 3 focus areas: biofuels/biochemical, industrial/environmental, and pharmaceuticals


Courses – Bio-based economy seminar

  • Acquaints graduate students with opportunities in producing electric power, liquid fuels, or other biomass products
  • Outside speakers will discuss additional biomass opportunities

University of Georgia’s Complex Carbohydrate Research Center also trains undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral research associates, and visiting scientists in principles, methods, and analytical techniques used to study complex carbohydrates.

 The BioEnergy Systems Research Institute has many interesting projects funded by a variety of other schools and organizations, which include:

  • Hydrogen-dependent conversion of carbon dioxide to liquid electrofuels by extremely thermophillic archaea
  • Genomics of wood formation and cellulosic biomass traits in sunflower
  • Improving woody biomass feedstock logistics by reducing ash and moisture content
  • Integrating large-scale biomass harvesting into the U.S. wood supply system
  • Organ and tissue-specific transporters: Important hubs in gene and metabolite networks regulating carbon use in wood-forming tissues of Populus
