Description We seek a Communications Officer who will play an integral role in the NCE Communications team to support the development and implementation of smart, high-impact communication strategies that extend our influence, media coverage and online presence. This position will require strong writing and messaging skills with experience in disseminating content through multiple communications channels (including online, in blogs, op-eds, through media-related materials, and supporting with events). The Communications Officer will also track and manage media relationships, oversee publication production processes and develop content for products and events in close coordination with the NCE engagement team and relevant teams in NCE’s partner network. 

The successful candidate for this Communications Officer position will have strong interpersonal skills, a proven track record in engaging with the media, excellent writing skills, and an enthusiasm for turning big ideas into action. 


The Communications Officer's main areas of responsibility will include the following: 
  • Provide input to the NCE’s strategic communication plans and support their implementation as a means to further the project’s goals and build its brand as thought leaders in the climate-economic space.
  • Draw from NCE research and analysis to craft compelling messages that accurately communicate NCE’s work to target audiences, including in coordination with the Engagement team for high-level engagements by Global Commissioners.
  • Support on the preparation of creative content (videos, multimedia, graphics) drawing from NCE research and analysis to support high-impact outreach efforts.
  • Develop media and outreach-related materials, ranging from op-eds, media briefings, blog posts for NCE Global Commissioners or research leads, to press releases, advisories or planning for press conferences/calls.
  • Collaborate and work with a range of communications partners (including across WRI, as well as other partner institutions in the wider NCE network and with Global Commissioner teams) to align global communication efforts.
  • Proactively identify and deploy ways of extending the reach of NCE media placements and public events, including through social media platforms.
  • Oversee the efficient execution of existing communications processes regarding publications and design.
  • Regularly track and evaluate metrics of success, and adapt strategies to grow and improve outreach results over time.

Required Qualifications: 

Education & Experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or other related field (eg: communications, public relations, economics, or environmental studies); 
  • Minimum 3-5 years full time relevant professional experience working in public relations, journalism, or communications with link to climate, energy or broader environmental issues. 
  • Proven ability to lead on the coordination and delivery of communications products, influence strategies, and audience targeting. 
  • Demonstrable experience in preparing written materials in strong, polished prose with a clear sense of the needs of diverse audiences.
  • Experience working with reporters and the media and a good sense of the climate media landscape (preference also for those with established media contacts or networks especially in business, economic, and energy sectors in leading outlets). 
  • International experience or prior work in a global organization preferred, including language skills, especially in French or Spanish.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced office environment, both independently and as part of a global team across time zones. 
  • Excellent inter-personal communication skills, including the ability to encourage collaboration with other programs, international offices, and partners. 
  • Highly motivated, proactive work style and excellent organizational skills. 
  • Ability to think creatively and collaboratively about all elements of communications work with preference for a proven track record of searching for and implementing innovative approaches focused on achieving results or amplifying impact 
  • Adaptable to rapidly changing priorities and able to manage multiple deadlines and deliver high quality work products.
